My doctor has a sign posted in her office
to the effect that if a prescription needs to
be refilled, her office should be notified at
least 7 days in advance. I guess that
means that they spend so much time
calling in refills that they can only do 1/7
of them in one day (in the time they allot
for that purpose). |
| Quite a few drugs which are prescription in the US are OTC in Mexico.
For example, Prozac and propranolol. However, those with potential
for abuse, generally US scheduled 2-4, do require a prescription. As
long as you have a 3 month supply or less, youre probably OK, altho
a note or copy of the prescription might be useful. |
| dont you just when a patient calls and says, i just called my
doctor and he says you HAVE to call him so he can give you the ok to
refill my prescription BUT you have to do it right now, hes leaving his
office in 10 minutes! when you call, after being put on hold for 10
minutes your told that they have no clue what the patient wants, theyll
need to take you # and call you back....a complete waste of your time. i
cant blame doctors offices wanting to cut down the amount of work they
have to do but it doesnt make much sense shuffling the patient around
and wasting everyones time. patients need to take some responsibility
also...its YOUR health thats effected if YOU run out of medication.
pharmacists dont mind providing the courtesy service of calling for
refills but it shouldnt be their sole responsibility to do so. i try
asking my customers if they would like me to call THEIR doctor to get
THEIR prescription refilled for THEM, please try not waiting to the last
minute and give me a da. |

If you have a problem with delivery of a prescription or a refill
through the prescription drug services administered by MERCK-MEDCO, I
strongly advise recording any phone conversations you have with them.
Depending on what phone rep (or suisor) you talk to, you may have to
go back and prove what you were told when you find out that things are
not being handled exactly like you were told at first. |
| I have no idea if it is more efficient or not, but it is more to my
liking. Also we have a automatic call-in service. You call the one
number and enter your SS number(you need a touch-tone phone). The voice
says The veterans initials for that SS number is :(in my case EC). Then
it says For prescription refills press 1. I press 1 and a voice says
Enter you prescription number and then press the pound key. I do that
and the voice says That prescription is refillable. Please allow 7 to
10 days for delivery. |
