I was initially concerned that it could end up weaking my vocal cords, which would obviously be devistating for me. I am taking antibiotics also, which were prescribed on the first visit. the kenalog shot was given to reduce the throat swelling. No, he didnt do a swab, although he did examine my mouth/throat/ears. Hello Pete, I have to retract what I said earlier. The persons getting muscle injections are of lidocaine, not steroid.
I had to go to a cosmetic clinic for this one where they inject me. Here are the details. Notice the thinning of the skin side effect. ACNE scars I had are a little bit thinner now, but, they still bad. I am now using apricot scrub at the same time. One day it made me faint while exercising (I exercised really hard, hey, its a steroid, thought Id get a kick out of it. Try it! You wont be disappointed: youll see some of that crap scar cyst peel off, and flatten it down.) My physician said kenalog is a modern substitute for accutane that seems to work better in terms of doing less damage.
Thanks for the info, Kent. The problems have since gone away (for now). I had never gotten an injection before so didnt know much about it. I do know other singers whove gotten steroid injections for hoarseness on seldom occasion, although I dont know if it was Kenalog and if it was injected in the butt. Anyway, Ill research and find out whos a good otolaryngolist in my area (San Diego) so next time Ill know who to call. Or, hopefully there wont be a next time.
Last fall my wife got a nasty bee sting. Two or three days later, she visited her doctor for a check up (not for the bee sting). Before she left, he decided to help her along with a small injection of Kenalog to the arm. Two months after that, a strange, painful depression about 1.25" in diameter appeared in the area of the injection. Still, not knowing what it was, She visited an orthopedic specialist who took x-rays. He said it appeared as though someone had physically "carved the muscle right out of the arm" and asked her whether she had had any steroid shots- then she remembered the Kenalog. It has now seven months later and it appears as though her arm is permanently damaged. (There has been absolutely no improvement in the affected area).
Since then Ive read a few times on the internet that Kenalog and other steroids shouldnt be administered more than once/year. I dont know whether the anxiety pills or the steroid relaxed my throat, but it did open up; the thing is afterwards and now still my throat feels kind of loose and almost numb. My voice doesnt sound much different, but it feels really thin as if I cant push it very hard. I dont know if thats still lingering from the infection or if it would be from the Kenalog injections. Im feeling a little paranoid that I shouldnt have gotten that second injection, but having never had one before I didnt know anything about them at the time.
